Mais pour John Kennex, un policier qui a perdu sa femme quelques années plus tôt dans des circonstances mystérieuses, tout n’est pas parfait. Il n’a aucune confiance dans ces androïdes et leur côté calculateur. Il se retrouve alors à faire équipe avec Dorian, un androïde qui a quelques bugs, qui le rendent plus humain que les autres robots.
